Cross country skiing

Geilo offers countless possibilities for cross- country skiers. Here you will find a large network of trails and well-prepared marked tracks.

Put on your cross country skis and move silently across the Hardangervidda plateau. Feel yourself gliding. Smell the fresh air. Enjoy your lunch in the sun along the route, or stop at one of Geilo’s traditional ski lodges and treat yourself to hot buns and waffles.

Many of the tracks are connected to The Norwegian Mountain Touring Association’s marked tracks, on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau and in Skarvheimen – the opportunities are unlimited. In high season all the tourist and mountain cabins are open for service so you can have a well-earned rest.

There are a total of 220 km prepared cross-country tracks in the Geilo and Ustaoset area. 40 km are in woodland, 175 km are on the high mountains and 5 km are a floodlit training track. 26 km are prepared for using skating technique.

A map of the cross country tracks and the daily report on skiing conditions can be obtained from the tourist information and at most of the accommodation establishments.

Cross-country equipment and baby sledges can be rented at the ski rental services in Geilo.
